Lawrence was born in 1948 and resided in Regina, Saskatchewan until 1988. A lifestyle change prompted a move to the Okanagan Valley in beautiful BC, where he met & married his wife, Kena. In 1996 they settled in her home town of Penticton, which is when his interest in art deepened and his adventures with sculpting began.
A self taught sculptor, Lawrence creates exclusively in steel. His studio is conveniently located in an outbuilding on their B&B property. Due to the size of many of Lawrence’s sculptures a rather notable sculpture garden has been created. This garden is open to the public from Spring through Fall.
The medium of mild steel comes in various lengths and widths of rod, flat and sheet. The process includes mig welding, plasma cutting, torch heating, grinding & cold forming, which allow him to transform this foreboding material into sculptures which are lively, fluid and dance. With a keen interest in figurative work he has discovered that is where his talents lie.

His work has been exhibited at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Art Gallery of the South Okanagan, Mission Hill Winery, Westbank, Red Rooster Winery, Penticton, The Art Ark, Kelowna, and Hambleton Galleries, Kelowna. In November 2004, Lawrence, Jennifer Garant and their respective spouses shared a most successful “Evening of Art” at Giardinos of Penticton. Currently his work is displayed at Artist’s of the World Gallery, Calgary AB, Van Dop Gallery, New Westminster BC, & the gallery @ Red Rooster Winery, Penticton BC

Lawrence Cormier

“My creative process is driven by the transformation of steel, a cold and rigid material, into a lively, animated figure, which communicates to all a joy of life. My desire is fulfilled with the acknowledgment of my accomplishment observed in the expression of the viewer when interacting with my art.”
